Schedule and announcements for this week 1/30-2/3
I hope everyone had a great weekend! The Appling band was represented well at the UT Martin Honor Band with six students and Memphis Area Honor Band with twelve students. They had a good time and learned a lot. Pictures and videos are posted on our Facebook page at: A.M.S. Band Bartlett, TN. If you would like to go to the Christian Brothers High School honor band on Feb. 17-18, please get your application and $20 fee (payable to Appling Band) in by the end of this week. I am the guest clinician and would love to see a lot of my Appling kids participate.
Smart Music was due last night (1/29). If you did not complete your assignments, they are now late and points will be taken off. I must listen to them all and get them in PowerSchool because interims are due by Friday afternoon. Please stay on top of these. As I am listening, I hear a lot of good things and a lot of kids that are turning in things without spending the time and attention to detail that they need to. Please only submit your best work! When you have over two weeks to work on things and procrastinate until the last day, you cannot possibly submit your best work and it will leave you very stressed out. I will be posting solos soon for the solo/ensemble festival and you are to turn in two of those (your choice) for a grade and others can be extra credit. I will also be posting songs for honor band members to have access to for help for their upcoming concerts and festival.
Here is the schedule for the week:
Monday: Honor Band 2:15-4:00
Tuesday: Jazz Band 2:15-4:00
Wednesday: Honor Band 2:15-4:00
Christian Brothers applications and $ and All-West clinic permission slips and $ due by the end of the week.
I hope everyone has a great week!
Mrs. S.
Smart Music assignments posted due 1/29
New Smart Music assignments have been posted for all three grade levels and will be due Sunday 1/29. Please stay on top of these and spend time on them. Only submit your best work. Slow the tempos down if you need to and isolate parts. Listen to or play along with the "my part" to hear how it goes and then take it away to submit. This collectively is worth 120 points so make sure to do it.
6th grade: #71,76,78,84,90, and 91
7th grade: #48, 49, 55,57,74, and 106
8th grade: Whiteleaf Hill m. 61-77 and m.95-116; Grand Galop March m.1-42 and m.43-126
Congratulations to AllWest TN Band Members
Congratulations to the 59 students who followed through with their auditions this past Saturday for the AllWest TN band. Appling Band had 9 students selected and 4 alternates! They will participate in a three day clinic event on Feb. 9-11 with all of the other best students in West Tennessee. This is a HUGE HONOR. I am so proud of everyone's hard work and for conquering your nerves. You learned so much through the process of learning your scales and learning the prepared music and practicing your sightreading skills. If you did not make it this year, don't be discouraged and keep practicing because you have a lot of experience now and more confidence to make it next year. Those 7th and 8th grade non beginners who did not show up for this required part of their grade will perform for me in class for partial credit.
The following students were selected:
Blue Band (top group):
Kenneth Burnett (8th grade) - 1st chair percussion
Thien Vuong (7th grade) - 1st chair bassoon
Mazen Al-Ramahi (8th grade) - 2nd chair tenor sax
Tony Cox (7th grade) - 3rd chair baritone
Red Band (second group):
Emily Segura (6th grade): 2nd chair clarinet
Maddie Chapman (8th grade): 11th chair clarinet
Chris Brown (8th grade): 17th chair clarinet
Tyler Cook (8th grade): 7th chair trumpet
Jeremiah Bowman (8th grade): 1st chair baritone saxophone
Alternates:
Joey Odo (8th grade) - 1st alternate trumpet
Libby Graham (8th grade) - 2nd alternate clarinet
Samantha Upshaw (6th grade) - 7th alternate clarinet
Carter Rayburn (8th grade) - 4th alternate french horn
