Reminders for this week

Happy Mother's Day to all of my wonderful band moms!  I hope you've had a great day!
Last week's 6th grade and jazz band concert was amazing!  So proud of your hard work!  Thank you to all of the parents who worked together to carry all of the equipment and helped with set up and tear down and with tickets and monitoring.  We will do this again on Tuesday with the 7th, 8th, and honor band concert.  Students need to wear black bottoms and white top (guys with tie) and black shoes and socks.  The concert starts at 6:30 at New Hope and all students are there at 6 for warm up.  Tickets will be $2.  We will need a LOT of help with equipment and will again meet at Appling at 5:15 for loading (we have 4 timpani, bass drum, xylophone, drum set, podium, and all music stands).  We will also need help with set up and tear down and monitoring of students when they aren't performing.  Thanks in advance for your help!
On Monday  students will need their band instruments and not their PE uniforms.  Mr. Mack and I got permission to flip flop the MAPS classes on Monday because our concerts are this week and we don't see classes Tues-Thurs because of field days.
The 8th grade band will have a required band rehearsal after school on Monday until 4.  Please bring a snack or $ for the concession stand and arrange for transportation.
There will be no more after school rehearsals after Monday...... jazz band decided not to go on their end of the year tour.
The awards banquet Friday night was very nice.  Thank you to New Hope Christian Church for hosting it.  Thank you to Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. Gill, and all of the other amazing band parents for organizing this and working with the caterers and for all of the decorations.  Thank you so much to Carter Rayburn for the awesome slideshow that you put together.  I will let everyone know if we make copies of that to sell..... I think it would be a great souvenir of our year!  Thank you to all of the band parents who contributed to my gift bag..... you are so generous!  It has been a pleasure to teach your kids this year!
If you did not attend the banquet, I will get you your awards in class Monday.  If there was a misspelling on your certificate or trophy/plaque, we will work to fix that this week.
Let me know if you have any questions at [email protected].  Thanks!

Band Banquet flyer and need pics for slideshow

Here is the band awards banquet information that was passed out yesterday in class.  Reservations and money needs to be turned in by next Wednesday May 3 so that we can give a headcount to the caterer.  Thank you and I look forward to celebrating with you Friday May 12!

Carter Rayburn (8th grade french horn/baritone player) is helping put the slideshow together to watch during our dinner.  Please email him any pictures from the year or you may put pictures on a thumbdrive or cd and give to me and I will give to him.  His email address is: [email protected]
Thanks!

May 2017 Calendar

We have a busy last month of school with the trip, required rehearsals, concerts, and banquet.  Please take note of everything...... looking forward to an awesome month with the Appling Band!

Car Wash this Saturday 11-3

Our annual spring car wash is this Saturday 11-3 at Autozone in Bartlett on Stage Rd.  Wear your band shirt and bring any car wash supplies that you can (particularly need soap).  We need kids as well as parents and siblings to help.  Money raised from this will help cover the remaining cost of the spring trip that the boosters have covered as well as go toward the spring awards banquet.  Hope to see you there!

Schedule and announcements for this week 4/3-4/7

Great job at the Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday!  We had 72 superior (1) ratings and 29 excellent (2) ratings and 10 students who scored 3 or comments only.  I read over all of the comments and there were many positive things said and hopefully you will also receive some constructive criticism as to what to keep working on.  I am proud of you for your hard work.  I will give you your judge's comments sheets in class and you will receive your medals with your other awards at the awards banquet on May 12.
This Thursday April 6 at 6:30 will be our last band booster meeting of the year to plan the end of the year activities, vote on officers for next year, and go over details of the spring trip.  This is a mandatory meeting for trip participants to sign required paperwork and pay final payments.
This Saturday April 8 from 11-3 will be our annual spring car wash.  This is usually a dog/car wash but we decided to just do a car wash and have it at Autozone because we were successful with that location last fall.  Wear your band shirt and bring your buckets and sponges.  We will need lots of parents to help and to supervise.  Monies raised from this will help cover the balance from the Spring trip that the boosters are covering in order to keep student cost down, so all honor and jazz band members are encouraged to participate.
Next Monday April 10 the honor band will be touring Oak and Ellendale Elementary Schools.  We will plan to leave at 8:30 and should return around 10.  We will need a LOT of parent help with this to carry percussion equipment and help with set up and tear down at each location.  Please let me know asap if you can help with this and if you have a truck/SUV/van that can carry percussion and stands.  Thanks so much in advance!  Students will need to bring long black socks and shoes and gym shorts for this event.  Permission slips will be going out this week.
Next Tuesday night April 11 at 6 pm is the 6th grade preview night.  Jazz band will be performing before the program starting at 5:40 and should be on stage no later than 5:30 dressed in black tops/black bottoms.  Honor band will be performing as part of the program but I am not sure what time yet.... hopefully early in the program because some of our members will need to go to Bartlett High School for the percussion and colorguard clinic/auditions.  We are working that out with the high school directors.  Students will need to bring black shoes and socks and gym shorts because uniforms will be worn.
Here is the schedule for this week again:
Monday - Honor Band 2:15-4
Tuesday - Jazz Band 2:15-4 (Mr. Rundell from high school will be guest director)
Wednesday - Honor Band 2:15-4
Thursday - Band Booster meeting 6:30 pm (required of trip participants)
Saturday - Car Wash Autozone Stage Rd. Bartlett 11-3

Looking forward to a great week!
