October 20 Booster meeting

In case you missed the meeting last night, here is the agenda.  We are very busy in the next few months so stay on top of things.  I'm looking forward to a great Halloween dance next Friday night!  Also remember that poinsettia fundraiser is due next Friday.

Schedule and announcements for this week 10/17-21

I hope everyone had a fabulous fall break!  I am ready to start a busy 2nd nine weeks with the Appling Band.  Our 6th graders had an AWESOME concert right before fall break and I am so proud of them!  Here is what is coming up:  We will be having honor and jazz band auditions and starting those groups, starting basketball season which means pep rallies and basketball games for our 7th and 8th graders (our first pep rally is this Thursday 10/20), preparing for the Open House performance on Oct. 25 (7th and 8th graders..... details to be announced soon), taking a field trip to the Bartlett Academy to hear the high school band on Oct. 26 (8th graders), hosting the annual Band Halloween Dance on Oct. 28, preparing for the Veteran's Day performances on Nov. 10 and 11 (select students..... PLEASE be practicing this music), and starting to work on our holiday music for our concert on December 12.  We will also start to use computers for composition assignments and using Edmodo for journals as well as continue Smart Music.  Our 7th and 8th graders will be learning the rest of our scales and work on sight reading as we prepare for the All-West TN Band auditions in January.
Here is the schedule for this week:
Monday - Honor Band auditions scheduled until 4:20 (perform at assigned times)
Tuesday - Honor Band auditions scheduled until 4:20 (perform at assigned times)
Wednesday - 7th grade required rehearsal 2:15-4:00
Thursday - 7th and 8th graders perform at Black and Gold pep rally and should wear their band tshirts; Band Booster meeting 6:30 band room
 
Next week:
Monday - 8th grade required rehearsal 2:15-4:00
Tuesday - Jazz band auditions scheduled until 4:15; 7th and 8th graders perform at open house - Time and details TBA
Wednesday - 8th grade band members go to Bartlett Academy on field trip 10-12:30; First honor band rehearsal 2:15-4:00
Friday - Band Sponsored Halloween Dance

Schedule and announcements for this week 10/3-10/7

The 8th grade band did an AMAZING job on Saturday at the Bartlett Fall Festival!  It looks like they had a lot of fun with the high schoolers and they sounded great! 
  •  The first Veteran's Day rehearsal is this afternoon (Monday) until 4:00.  We plan to try to get through all of our music, so please be present and attentive.
  • We will have another individual practice session on Tuesday until 4 because I am postponing jazz band auditions until after fall break.  Tuesday is the deadline for the second set of Smart Music assignments.... .DO NOT BE LATE!  Tuesday is also the deadline for any 6th grader who wants to audition for a solo or ensemble for the concert.
  • Wednesday is the second of two required rehearsals for the 6th grade band.  Don't forget to bring a snack or money for a snack and pick up is at 4.
  • Thursday night is the 6th grade Meet the Band Night Concert at New Hope Christian Church at 6:30 pm.  Tickets are $2 and can be bought at the door.  Be there at 6 pm dressed in concert black (black bottoms and white shirt - guys wear a tie, black socks and black shoes).  Please leave instrument cases in your car.   If you can help with equipment (stands, bass drum, xylophone and podium) and have a truck, trailer, van, or SUV please be at the band room at 5:30. 
  • Friday is the deadline for jacket and sweatshirt orders.  The order forms are available on my webpage or if you need a printed copy, see Mrs. Sanders
  • This is the end of the first nine weeks, if you wish to do any extra credit report on composer or instrument or extra Smart Music assignments - save as an MP3 file and email to Mrs. Sanders at [email protected])

Appling Band Apparel

Take a look at the Appling Band items that are offered for sale.  There will be a separate file posted with the pricing.  These orders are due no later than Friday October 7 and the order will be placed during fall break with delivery by the end of October.  These would make great Christmas gifts!

AMS Band Tshirt design

Here is the design for the tshirt.  If any parent or sibling would like to order them, we are placing orders tomorrow Wednesday September 28.  Please specify size and whether adult or youth size and send $10 per shirt (cash or check made payable to Appling Band Booster).  Thanks!

Monday - 8th grade band rehearsal to prepare for Sat. Bartlett Fall Festival event 2:15-4:00
Tuesday - Individual Practice (this is the last one scheduled) 2:15-4:00; 8th grade percussionists rehearse 5-8 at Bartlett High School for Sat. event
Wednesday - 6th grade band required rehearsal 2:15-4:00
Thursday - 8th grade percussionists rehearse 5-8 at Bartlett High School for Sat. event
Friday - Sheet fundraiser due
Saturday - 8th graders perform with all Bartlett 8th graders and Bartlett High School Band at Bartlett 150 year celebration - Meet at high school at  3:00 and rehearse, have pizza, walk to Freeman park, perform 6:30-7:30, watch fireworks, and return to Bartlett High around 8:15. 
 
Next week:
Monday - Veteran's Day rehearsal 2:15-4:00 (Practice your music and be ready..... permission forms should be turned in)
Tuesday - Jazz band auditions
Wednesday - 6th grade required rehearsal 2:15-4:00
Thursday - 6th grade Meet the Band Night Concert  - New Hope Christian Church 7 pm - Be there for warm up at 6:30.  Wear black and white. 
 
6th graders - Will have auditions this week for solos and ensembles for the concert - be ready!
 
All 7th and 8th graders should have new books!  8th grade should have had their book 3 (Essential Technique 2000) and 7th grade should have Essential Elements 2000 Book 2.
 
Work on Bed Sheet Fundraiser!  Info letters were passed out last week.  We make $23 per set!  These are due Friday.
We will be taking orders this week for tshirts for any parent or siblings that want one..... $10 each.  I will also distribute jacket and sweatshirt information.

Next Wednesday 9/28 is the first 6th grade required rehearsal.
Next Tuesday and Thursday 9/27 and 9/29 there will be 8th grade percussion practice from 5-8 at Bartlett High School.
Next Monday there will be a rehearsal after school for 8th graders to prepare for the Oct. 1 event.
