Corkys Fundraiser Information

Attached is the Corky's Fundraiser information.  All orders and money are due by this Thursday March 17.  Delivery will be Thursday March 24 during the lunch hours which is during Spring Break, so please make arrangements for you or your customers to pick up that day.  There are many items available including Boston Butt, Turkey, Ham, Ribs, sauce, and cookbooks.  The money raised from this will go to your ISA to help raise money for your spring trip or for anything band related this year. 
 

Announcements for Week of March 7

We will have honor band rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday and jazz band on Tuesday.  All late Smart Music assignments and any extra credit (additional solos on Smart Music, Muse Score composition, reports, etc...) are due NO LATER than Wednesday evening because they are due in PowerSchool by Friday which is the end of the nine weeks grading period. 
March and April calendars were distributed in class and posted on the webpage. 
Please note that Corky's fundraiser is due next Thursday and delivery is on Thursday of Spring Break (make sure you are in town or get customers to pick up for you). 
The Christian Brothers High School honor band registration forms are due to Mrs. Sanders by next Wednesday March 16.  There is a $15 fee to participate but it includes lunch.  This will be a great experience and look great on your resume for scholarship applications. 
Please note that West TN concert festival for honor band members has been postponed from next Wednesday to Thursday March 31....... still performing at 11:20 at Colonial Middle School.  We will plan to depart Appling at 9 am that day.  NJHS induction is that morning at 8 and we will wait for those students to finish.
Save the date for the Spring Fling on April 9.  Both honor and jazz bands are performing and the band will have a booth set up.  At this time we have signed up to sell baked good items, so we will need people to bake cookies, brownies, cupcakes, pies, etc...... to sell and we will need parents and students to help work.  More details to come.

Solo and Ensemble 2016 Letter

Here is your letter with details about the Solo and Ensemble Festival this Saturday Feb. 27 at Elmore Park Middle School.  We have been assigned to 11:15-12 timeslot and you are to be there at 10:45.  Please read over the details and let me know if you have any questions or concerns!  I can't wait to have everyone bring home superior ratings on Saturday!

Solo/Ensemble and Smart Music

Solo and Ensemble Festival is scheduled for Saturday Feb. 27 at Elmore Park Middle School.  This event is REQUIRED for all band students and has been on the calendar since the beginning of the year.  All students were registered and it is part of your band fee ($10 per event).  I have requested an early morning time and I hope to have an exact time and details sent out this week.  I have posted all of the solos that we are working on in class onto Smart Music.  It was VERY VERY time consuming because I had to post for each set of instruments separately, but I have finally finished posting.   Please use this as a tool to help you prepare.  You will need to submit two of the songs that are posted for a grade and any extra songs that you submit can be for extra credit.  They will be due no later than March 2, but get them in as soon as you can, take your time on them, and only submit your best. 

Memphis Area Band Letter Permission

I have hand delivered these letter/permission forms to our 20 Appling band students going to Overton High School next week.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE return this by Tuesday morning 1/19  to me (I leave at 8:45 with our 8th graders so would like to have them before hand) and make sure to turn in your $25 fee.  Also you may email Sarah Matthews at [email protected] if you can help with driving and which shift so that we can quickly coordinate this.  With 20 students going, we MUST MUST MUST have help with driving to make this work.  I'm excited there is so much interest in it! 
Students need to be working on their audition requirements and read all of the details about the event.  Thanks!

Band pics for yearbook

Please take note that we will be having band group pictures made for the yearbook on Monday morning January 25 at 7:15 am.  Students are to wear their band tshirt for this.  DO NOT FORGET! 

Dave Matthews Event Info

There is an event at Amro Music store that students and parents may be interested in next Tuesday night from 6-8 at Amro Music Store.  The trumpet player and saxophone player from the Dave Matthews Band will be performing at Amro music and doing a clinic.  Our 8th grade band students will be unable to attend because of the district band event, but perhaps some of our 6th and 7th graders can go?  See the attached information.

BCS Honor Band Permission Slip

Please make sure the attached permission slip is returned tomorrow (Friday) for the event next Tuesday.  Make sure to read the info on what to bring:  instrument in working order, music, extra reeds, pencils, concert uniform - black bottoms, black shoes and socks, and white tops (guys bring a tie).  Make sure to label your bag.  Also make sure to get all make up work from your teachers and do it in a timely manner.

Memphis Area Honor Band memo

If anyone is interested in attending the Memphis Area Honor Band festival on Jan. 21-23 at Overton High School, I need to know by this Wednesday Jan. 13.  Please read the memo above and sign and return.  I will give you another permission slip with details and arrange carpools after I get these in.
