Veteran's Day memo

Please sign and return the attached permission slip by Thursday 9/15 so that I can know how many people I can count on for the Veteran's Day group.  I will be copying music to hopefully hand out next week and need to get that ready.  I hope that as many people can participate that can.  Thanks!

Last minute reminders about tonight

Don't forget about tonight's football game for our 7th and 8th graders.  People  will meet at the band room at 6:20/ 6:25 to load drums or if they have forgotten anything in the band room.  Students will need to meet at the Bartlett High School at 6:50/6:55 wearing your band shirt or an Appling shirt (don't care what bottoms.... school appropriate).  You will need to leave your case in the car.  You will need four pieces of music - Two cheer sheets, School Spirit March, and Best Day of My Life.  We will meet in the grassy area by the band room to warm up and then walk to the gate around 7:05/7:10.  Students will not need a ticket but parents can purchase for $5.  We should be done by 8:45 and pick up by the front gate.  Make sure you have eaten dinner and do your homework before the game.

Information for Monday and Tuesday for 7th/8th grade band students

Next Monday from 2:15-4pm there will be a special rehearsal for all 7th and 8th graders who will be performing at the AMS football game on Tuesday at 7:30pm. Remember to bring a snack or money to purchase from concessions. Pick up your student in the back parking lot at 4pm.

Next Tuesday we need help transporting the drum equipment to the AMS football game at Bartlett High School. If you can help, please email myself or Mrs. Sanders and meet at the school at 6:30pm on Tuesday. We also need parents to help chaperone the students in the bleachers. Please email myself or Mrs. Sanders if you plan to be there and help.

All 7th and 8th grade students playing at the game will need to meet at Bartlett High School in the grassy area beside the band room. Please leave instrument cases in your cars. Warm-up will begin promptly at 7pm. We will walk to the stadium together about 7:10pm. Students need to wear an Appling band shirt or Appling shirt to get in for free. Parents will have to pay $5.

Playing at the football game is a new experience and I think it will be a lot of fun.  There are 2 7th graders and 3 8th graders who are on the football team and will of course be excused from this performance.  Anyone else that cannot come for some reason or another needs to contact me through email at [email protected] or send a note and it needs to be a legitimate excuse.

Feel free to email me with any questions you may have. Thank you so much for your help.

Sonic Fundraiser order sheet

We will be selling Sonic fundraiser cards for $5 each.  The band will make $4.75 per card!  You can either send money for how many you need or use this form to take orders and collect money for them.  We will end orders for these on Sept. 15.  I think these should sell really well..... thanks for helping support the band!

Band fees and Smart Music

Smart Music letters were distributed on Friday with download and code information.  Please email me at [email protected] if you did not get your letter and I will email it to you.  Also email me if you have questions or problems.  Reminder, I gave out codes to everyone on good faith because we only have about half of students who have paid their band fee.  The $125 band fee covers the cost of the Smart Music subscription (which is $40) along with band tshirt, WTSBOA All-West Band audition fee and solo and ensemble participation fee, sheet music, transportation cost, any school instruments and repairs, clinicians that we hire, concert facilities, end of year awards, etc...... This is made payable to Appling Middle School and goes through the school account and the fee has been set by the Bartlett City School Board.  Please pay this as soon as possible or arrange a payment plan.

Smart Music assignments have been posted and there are five songs due on Sept. 21.  Please work to get your program set up and work dilligently on these.  I know 6th grade and new students don't get their computers until this week, but you can go ahead and set up your account on a parent's computer if you have one.  You will need to click on "per user" rather than "shared" when you use your school computers.  Remember that you will only set up one account and can use that same account and log in information on multiple devices (student computer, parent computer, Ipad, grandparent computer, etc...).... DO NOT PUT IN THE CODE I GAVE YOU MORE THAN ONCE and PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD.  You will need to enroll in your class to get your assignments.  6th graders will do #12, 14,18, 23, and 24 in book one.  7th graders will do #157, 164, 166, 172, and 175 in book one.  8th graders will do #120, 128, 134, 140, and 141 in book two.  7th or 8th grade beginners will do #14, 18, 38, 42, and 44 in book one.  7th and 8th grade beginners need to have enrolled in both the beginner class and their regular class and try to work on those assignments as well.  Remember to only submit your best work, spend time on these, and do not procrastinate.
Good luck and I'm looking forward to listening to your assignments!

Announcements for the week of August 29

It is hard to believe that we are entering the 4th week of school!  All students should have instruments and books by now and we have learned the first five notes for 6th grade and have been busy reviewing in 7th and 8th grade.  We will continue in book one for 7th grade and should finish by mid-September and move on to book two.  We should finish reviewing book two for 8th grade and I hope to start book three by the end of next week.
We had a great turn out at parent orientation nights last week.  I hope to see everyone this Thursday night September 1st at 6:30 for our first band booster meeting of the year.
PLEASE LABEL ALL BOOKS AND INSTRUMENTS!  We are having problems with students leaving things out and this will help with that.  I have Amro luggage tags if you need them.  Please get a binder with sheet protectors (especially 7th and 8th grade) because sheet music is coming.
There are about 30 students that still have not turned in the colored information forms sent on the first day of band.  Please get those in ASAP so that we can put all of the information in our computers.  Also we have collected only about a third to half of our band fees and the original deadline is approaching this Thursday.   Please get the $125 fee in as soon as possible (checks made payable to Appling Middle School).  You will be getting Smart Music subscription renewal or activation codes by the end of the week and we cannot give you a code unless this is taken care of.  We are also working on the designs for our band tshirts and they are part of this fee as well as WTSBOA All-West audition fee, WTSBOA solo and ensemble festival, sheet music, band awards, school instrument upkeep, etc......  Please let me know if you have any questions or problems with your band fee.
We had a great turn out at our help sessions last week and will continue them this week.  Here is this week's schedule:
Monday - Woodwind help session 2:15-4:00 (geared more toward 7th and 8th graders)
Tuesday - Individual help session 2:15-4:00 (open to all band students)
Wednesday - Brass/Percussion help session 2:!5-4:00 (geared more toward 7th and 8th graders)
Thursday - Band Booster meeting 6:30 pm Band room
Friday - Hope to have Smart Music activation codes to give out.

Remember our band car wash has been rescheduled for Sept. 10.  I hope everyone has a great week.... see you Thursday night at our booster meeting!
