Profiles to help with band instrument selection

This information is for upcoming 6th graders and any current Appling student wishing to join band.  Read the profile information carefully and listen to the sound clips on my webpage.  Some instruments are more "popular" than others and some are more in demand and will have higher scholarship opportunities in the future.  We must have a balanced instrumentation to be successful and Mrs. Sanders will look at your prioritized choices and make a decision by early-mid June.

Smart Music Reminder

Smart Music assignments need to be done tonight or in the morning because interims are due at 5 pm on Friday.  I just sent a remind text message about this and have been announcing all week in class, but when checking, there are several students that have not completed them.  There are also some students that are not spending time on them and submitting their best work. Please do your best and do not procrastinate on these..... they have been posted for 2 weeks.

For 6th grade, it is #150, 152, and two excerpts of Aztec Dance.  For 7th grade it is #99, 113, 115, and two excerpts of Engines of Resistence.  For 8th grade it is #141, 153, excerpt of Winchester March, and excerpt of Italian Feast.

Thank you to all that came to work the dog and car wash on Saturday!  We made $456 toward our Atlanta spring trip and had a lot of fun.  Also thanks for those that supported and helped at the Spring Fling last weekend and who came to the spirit nights at Baby Jacks and Five Guys.

Thursday - No MAPS classes - Hoops for Heart.  West TN jazz festival after school at Kate Bond Middle (permission slip to be sent home and on my webpage).  Honor and jazz band members perform at 6th grade orientation - be there 5:30.  Bring black shoes, socks, and gym shorts (honor band) and wear black uniform jazz band.

Spring Fling Information

Good afternoon,

We still need volunteers for this Saturday at the Spring Festival at Appling from 3-7pm. The band will have a booth selling pizza. I’m trying to schedule at least two people per shift. We would like a mixture of parents and students in Concert, Honor and Jazz Band. Listed below is the schedule, if you can help out, please email me with the time slot you would like. We are also in need of a sign for the table. If you are interested, please email me and I will let you know what info you need to put on it. All proceeds will go toward the spring trip to Atlanta.

We will have a tent and a table. You can bring lawn chairs if you would like. All volunteers helping at the table will need to check in at the check-in table and get a name tag.

3:00-3:30pm – Sarah Mathews, Johnathan & Lizzy Austin
3:30-4:00pm –Demetria Malone, Kim Michael
4:00-4:30pm – Tamra & Rodney Gilcrhist
4:30-5:00pm – Renee Gill, Autumn Allen
5:00-5:30pm –
5:30-6:00pm – Mitchell

The Honor Band will be playing at 5pm and the Jazz Band at 6pm. The students need to wear their band t-shirt and jeans. All students need to report to the playing area 30 minutes before their scheduled playing time. We still have a small supply of band t-shirts available for purchase for $10 each.

Additional Information
Bathrooms will be on the 8th grade hallway.
The car wash will be in the front circle and it’s free.
The Fun Run begins at 4pm. Students and families sign in after they run/walk.
The K9 drug dog exhibit is at 4:30pm.
There won’t be any performers or dunk tank people from 4-4:45pm so people can run and watch the show.

Please email me if you have any questions. Thank you for all your help. I can’t wait to see you all this Saturday.

Band Fundraiser Information

We have a lot going on this month. We currently have two fundraisers going on. The Clara Clark Sander’s Collection bed sheets is our last ISA fundraiser. The sheets are $40 a set, available in twelve colors, and size twin through California king. I’ve attached the form to the email and I will also have printed forms with me on Saturday. All orders are due by Friday, April 15.

Our second general band fundraiser is through Premier Designs Jewelry. Mrs. Edmiston is giving her profits to the band. She will be at Spring Fling on Saturday if you would like to look at her jewelry in person and go to her booth. You can order at the booth, talk to Mrs. Sanders, or go online to janiceedmiston.mypremierdesigns.com. Mrs. Sanders has some catalogs in the band room if you would like to take a look. If you book a show from Mrs. Edmiston, she will also give all or part of the profits to the band. Specials: Buy two get one free or buy one get one half off. If you spend $75 or more you can get a $50 or less item for free. All proceeds will go to the band spring trip to Atlanta.

Spirit Night at Five Guys in Bartlett on Tuesday, April 12 from 4-10pm. The band will receive 10% of all sales during that time frame. I will create an event for it on Facebook by tomorrow. Please like, share and invite your friends. All proceeds will go to the band spring trip to Atlanta.

Car/Dog Wash at Hollywood Feed on Hwy 70 on Saturday, April 16 from 11-3pm. We need LOTS of students and parents to come out and help us. This will be our last fundraiser of the year. We hope to have a big turn out and raise money for the spring trip. Please email me and let me know if you plan to come out and have a day of fun.

Important Band Booster meeting Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30pm. We will be voting on next year’s booster board members, the changes for next year, and the spring trip to Atlanta. If you would like to run for a position on the board or would like to nominate someone, please email myself or Mrs. Sanders. Financial statements will be sent out by Monday, April 18.

Date Change: Our band banquet date has changed to Friday, May 13. Watch for more details to come soon.
