Veteran's Day group update and details

Attention Veterans Day group performers:

You guys did a GREAT job on Friday playing at all three lunch periods..... very proud!!!

Tomorrow is our big performance for the City of Bartlett Veteran's Day ceremony.  I drove by our performance site and they have a tent set up for us in case it is raining in the morning. Hopefully we can all fit....may have to rearrange seating some. This is at Veterans Park right next to Freeman Park.....corner of Bartlett Blvd and Bartlett Rd across from El Idolo restaurant. Please be there by 9 am for set up and warm up and please park in the lot farthest from the tents to save closer lot for the veterans. We will start playing at 9:30 and the ceremony is at 10. Hopefully we will be done around 11/11:15.

We have two parent volunteers for equipment but could probably use one more truck/van and some people to help load (meet at school at 8:15) and unload (should be back at school by 11:20/11:30).
Please remember all instruments in working order and music. Wear red Veterans shirt with any bottom and dress in layers underneath so shirt can be seen.
Email me at [email protected] or Remind text me.  If you are not on Remind text yet please do that!  Text the following codes to 81010 or if you’re having trouble with that try (218) 264-0472.  Codes are:  6th grade @kbfe8k2; 7th grade @e2eh6k; 8th grade @2a32b8

I plan on using Remind text and Facebook for any last minute changes. Thanks again for volunteering your time and talents to honor our veterans!!!!

Appling Jazz Band 2019/2020

Congratulations to those that made the Appling Jazz Band!  I heard a lot of good things and I'm looking forward to a great year.....A lot of returning students in this group and a few new students.  We will have our first rehearsal Tuesday 10/29 until 4 and we will meet most Tuesdays.
I am not putting you in "chair order" and we will be alternating parts a lot with songs.
I will give you a detailed "welcome" letter when I see you on Tuesday and we will start organizing our trip to Dallas, TX..... so excited about that!
We are in need of a bass player or someone that can play the bass part on the keyboard..... I may have found someone but not confirmed.  Please let me know if you know of anyone.
Congrats again and I will see you on Tuesday!

Appling Honor Band 2019/2020

Congratulations to the Appling Honor Band for 2019/20!  I heard a LOT of good things and also heard those that have a little further to go before Allwest auditions in January.  We will have our first rehearsal this Monday 10/28 after school until 4 and will practice most Mondays and Wednesdays.  I will give you a detailed welcome letter on Monday and we will start organizing our trip to Dallas, TX.... so excited about that!
If you are an alternate, it means that you were either:  not ready at this time and/or I have balance problems in the band and need to add some more instruments before adding you.  I hope to add some more people back in later and we will have a second round of auditions on Wednesday Dec. 18, so please keep practicing. I won't need you to come to rehearsals, but I will plan to give you copies of music when we start distributing music so that you can be learning that music too.
As of now, I have needs for more of the following instruments:  flute, clarinet, alto sax, French horn, and percussion.  Please practice the chromatic scale, first six scales on your scale sheet, and the marked sections of the Allwest music.
See you Monday!

Bandmasters Marching Contest Info

We have access to free tickets for the Bandmasters Championship marching competition at the Liberty Bowl this Saturday Oct. 26.  Bartlett High School performs at 8:30 pm and a lot of our Appling Band members will eventually march for them and a lot of our Appling alumni and siblings of current members are marching Saturday night.  I would love to have a lot of you go and support them and see what high school band is all about.   Please follow the link posted on my webpage to see which bands will be performing.  You can go for all day or just for the evening.
Please email me at [email protected] or tell your student how many tickets you need.  Please do not ask for tickets if you don't plan to use them.  Thanks and hope to see you Saturday!

Here is information about an awesome concert that will be this Sunday October 27 at 3 pm.  I have performed with the Bartlett Community Band for over 24 years and love playing with this group.  We put on a Halloween concert every year full of all Halloween/spooky music and wear our Halloween costumes..... so much fun.  This was originally supposed to be at BPAC but the location has been changed to the Buckman Center which is the auditorium by St. Mary's School.
I will give Extra Credit/PBIS points for those that attend.  Hope to see you there!

Please check the email that was sent with a google form or email me at [email protected].  Thanks!
Also to the kids..... please help with word of mouth advertising and I could use some help making signs to hang up around the school.  These can be done on full/half size pasteboard or on your computer.  Here is some information to put on the signs:
Tickets $7 in advance Thurs/Fri morning or $8 at the door
Costumes are optional but there will be a contest for scariest, funniest and most creative
Concessions sold - pizza, candy, drinks, etc......

I hope to see everyone this Friday for the best dance of the year!

2019 Poinsettia Fundraiser

I distributed this on Friday before school was out and we just emailed out as well, but thought I would post here as well.  These are BEAUTIFUL poinsettias from Bayliss Greenhouse and make wonderful gifts and decorations.  Contact your friends and family and co-workers and also try to contact places like hotels, churches, doctor/dentists offices, etc..... who may use these for decorations.  We make 50% profit on these so SELL, SELL, SELL!  Thanks!

Open House Thursday night 10/10

The 7th and 8th grade bands will be performing at open house Thursday night.  The bands will perform at 6:40 in the gym and will need to wear their band t-shirts that they received this week....... doesn't matter which bottoms and jeans and tennis shoes are fine.  Please be seated for warm up and ready to play in the band room at 6:10.  We will walk to the cafeteria around 6:32ish so that 8th grade can perform a combined piece with the strings and 7th grade will come with and listen to us.  We will then walk over to the gym and perform our band part.  We should be done by 7.  I will need everyone to pitch in and carry stuff back to the band room please.
Let me know if you have any questions.  Rehearsal went well yesterday and they are gonna be great!  Can't wait for everyone to hear them!
